Someday I won’t be able to walk on the metal beam at the park, today is NOT that day!
Yesterday when I was at the park with my daughter Josie I was unsettled by the fact that I was barely able to navigate the metal balance beam and even needed her hand to get up on it and to turn. I decided that perhaps it was because I was barefoot, so I went back with my daughter Annie today wearing shoes and am thrilled to report that I did much better! I don’t know if it’s due to lack of coordination or confidence, but I’ve never been real solid in the balance department to begin with so any decline that age may cause is gonna be a bummer. Satchel Paige asks the question, “How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?” Realistically, I would be a different age for each of the different hats I wear in life. I love how this question suggests that your age doesn’t define you nor does it have to dictate what you do and how you live, that choice is all yours. For the balance beam I’m gonna chose to stay below 40, keep wearing my shoes if that’s what it takes and keep on keepin on it.
Today was perfectly balanced!
